The DOJ has just indicted the whistleblower from Texas Children's Hospital who provided evidence that they were helping children "change their sex" as young as 11, after the hospital said they weren't. It's law fare -- because the process is the punishment and most people can't fight the government.

Stand with liars if you believe them. Stand with truth tellers if you can tell the difference.

You should probably explain yourself further, Colin. Bannon, we all know, have all heard about, and all have an opinion on, positive, negative, or neutral.

Are you saying that Straka is a liar? What part is he lying about in that video? And if so, calling pants-on-fire without any supporting evidence won't convince many.

Expand full comment

Sorry to gang up Colin, but that comment is right up there with “Know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em.” If you lead with an assertion, it’s important to follow with some facts to back it up. I tell you this because I’ve been called out myself. I’ve learned caution - and the importance of researching a point. Just do what Taibbi does. Or, do as Kenny Rogers did, use it as a lyric in a hit song. You’ll be rich, famous, and you won’t have to deal with pedants.

In college, I worked in the accounts payable department of a Big 10 university, with the stuffing and mailing of voucher checks part of my job. Voucher checks were simply bills paid out to various vendors. When a big act would come on campus, the check would cross my desk. In 1982, when the likes of Journey and Foreigner were getting checks of $75-100,000 for a concert, and the Police getting $120,000, Kenny Rogers got $175,000. That would be in excess of $650K today. Colin would indeed get rich.

I also learned that in Heart's concert rider, it was specified that the bowls of M&Ms have the green ones removed. shrug...artists.

Expand full comment

As to the green M&M’s, I’ve heard similar tales about several artists, and it turns out the real purpose is much more benign. The thinking is that, if the venue will read the contract thoroughly and do something that trivial, then odds are that the rest of the contract has been faithfully performed. So the M&Ms were a contract equivalent of the proverbial canary-in-the-coal-mine.

This is in the above article, but just to highlight it for people who don't click through -- this is what NPR said of the story just before the election:

“We don’t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don’t want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions,” NPR Managing Editor for News Terence Samuel told me. “And quite frankly, that’s where we ended up, this was … a politically driven event and we decided to treat it that way.”

A more honest story line from NPR would have read “We will not be covering any news that could possibly hurt our candidate. It isn't that they couldn't be bothered they were lying. I remember my frustration listening to Leslie Stahl interview Trump, a thirty year veteran of the news business. She rudely and repeatedly claimed "it can't be verified". The original NYP story had verified all of it. That article included the FBI warrant to take the laptop, cross email verification, a copy of the contract signed by Hunter, and photo from the surveillance camera when Hunter entered the shop. They all knew from the beginning. They were ALL Lying.

Glad you brought up the issue of lying. Not long ago Matt had written a piece about the struggles the NYT was having with whether or not to begin using the words lying, liar, lie. They wrote about their decision that due to the whoppers that they were hearing from Trump, that they must begin to use them. It was around that time that the entire legacy news organizations went all in on using those words in relation to one man. Trump became the King of the Liars. But since that time I feel that the majority of politicians began to take notice of the power and effectiveness of using lying much more often, much more openly, to emulate Trump, but in a slightly more sophisticated and nuanced fashion. It’s not hard at all, if you make an effort to really listen critically to what politicians say, to see it’s mostly lies. But as it is with legacy media in lockstep with the DNC and the Biden campaign, they must also lie, and protect the liars, for the noble cause of “saving democracy”. It all depends on which “side” is doing the lying don’t you see. I think it was last week when Walter and Matt were having some good laughs about the irony of the mis and disinformation folks being the ones who were the most adapt and guilty of spreading lies

yes, there were tons of #walkaway posts with tons of viral views on YouTube, and then it just all stopped suddenly. From the nature of the videos, no reasonable person could have believed they were faked. As I recall, typically it was someone just sitting in his or her car talking for 5 or 10 minutes into their phones about how they had become disillusioned with the Democratic party. Every personal testimonial video was different. It would have been practically impossible to fake this sort and volume of videos, just from the standpoint of cost. And what they did to Straka was horrible. He was totally innocent of misdeeds on J6, but they in effect forced him to plead out, and he did hard time. It was a totally disgusting page in our history. The evil people involved on the government (and tech?) side deserve long prison terms, IMO.

I don’t remember if I saw any #walkaway videos prior to the election. I remember deciding to walk away independently and being surrounded by people, who I once trusted, that I no longer felt safe sharing my thoughts with.

I agree government insiders working to suppress the videos is election interference. Even if Russians were involved, which seems unlikely, the fact that people in government offices have pushed so hard to give voting rights to unvetted immigrants, who rely on government financial support to survive, tells me they don’t really care about foreign influence in elections. They care about what they believe guarantees they stay in power.

They turn on their supporters when they ‘aren’t supportive enough’, and demonize those who never support them. The uni-party and unelected government leaders rely on building mass hatred for anyone who challenges their power.

Americans have been conditioned to vote for the lesser of two evils, not for a good candidate, so it doesn’t matter if all candidates are bad. That is a recipe for disaster… and likely led us to where we are today. If they can convince large numbers of people that voting is pointless, or maybe even dangerous and could lead to earning the label “domestic terrorist”, then they only need a small percentage of voters to keep them in power “legitimately”.

The uni-party and other government officials say election interference by insiders “protects democracy” but anyone who challenges their right to protect Americans from things they don’t want us to hear, think, or do, “deserves to be silenced, to lose other rights, and possibly to go to jail”. Those types of words are only used by people who are doing their best to avoid transfer of power.

It worried me, after the last election, when an article was published showing how insiders proudly protected Americans from ourselves by “fortifying the election”. At a minimum, that should have prompted election interference lawsuits, if not criminal investigations. Instead, it prompted calling anyone who questioned that particular election domestic terrorists.

Trials over paying off porn stars is a repeat of impeachment for lying about consensual sex between adults - only insiders cheer for such things. The rest of the world laughs or shakes their head in disbelief.

Large-scale operations, using government resources to propagandize the public, step into real RICO territory, and misuse taxpayer funds.

No, Federalism originally meant the 10th Amendment (and 9th too). Anti-Federalism is really nationalism. Kind orwellian, I guess. Liz - anti federalism was against a federal government - they were for revising the articles of confederation or some address to the state debts etc.

The hard fact of the matter is that we've grown to empire size with just the 50 states. I don't think it's simply a matter of devolving power that has aggravated improperly at the federal level back to the states. Currently each representative represents (theoretically) 761,169 people. One person can't adequately do that. We started at 1 per 30,000. But that was becoming unweildly so in 1929 it was fixed by law not amendment at 435.

But there are all sorts of problems trying to fix it. 4,350 representatives couldn't hold meetings, even divided into committees. If we were using those numbers the Great Compromise that balances big and little state interests comes undone. An internet search shows significant interest in this "solution" to the EC "problem".

I don't have even the faintest of the start of an idea to fix it. But we need to grapple with it.

In the meantime, I thoroughly concur we need to move back to Constitutional order instead of hoping the Feds can fix it all. It won't solve the underlying issues but it can alleviate some of the current pain. Who knows, it might even make this observation moot.
